TORONTO BUSINESS & CORPORATE LAWYER

Jim is an experienced Toronto business lawyer who joined the corporate law group of Devry Smith Frank LLP (DSF) early in 2014. In his previous years of practice, Jim was a senior business law partner in the Toronto office of a well respected national Canadian law firm. With DSF, Jim looks forward to continuing to offer client-focused and cost-effective legal services and solutions as a trusted advisor to business owners, corporations, institutions and organizations.

Clients benefit from Jim’s extensive experience in advising domestic and foreign clients in all aspects of Canadian corporate and commercial law including business formation and organization, equity and debt capitalization, investor agreements, governance, corporate reorganizations, the purchase and sale of a business, commercial contracts and business succession planning.

In his corporate and commercial practice with DSF, Jim will continue to provide personalized and value-added services to entrepreneurs, established small and medium-sized Canadian businesses and subsidiaries of foreign multinational corporations, as well as the institutions and organizations that finance and interact with those types of businesses. His practice is also well suited for the representation of minority shareholders or investors, franchisees and independent directors or committees and the provision of general independent legal advice.

Jim’s industry experience includes automotive, aerospace, agriculture, financial services, investment advisory, financial planning, technology, manufacturing, sports franchises, pension funds, distributors, transportation, infrastructure, cooperatives, marketing, brand advisory and commercial real estate.

He serves on the Ontario Bar Association’s Corporate Law Subcommittee considering law reform initiatives affecting the Ontario Business Corporations Act and related corporate statutes. He also participates in the Canadian Bar Association, American Bar Association, Association for Corporate Growth, Canadian Venture Capital and Private Equity Association, and has written regarding corporate and partnership laws and business succession planning.
