Courtney is a graduate of McGill University in Montreal where she completed her Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and History. Courtney was an award winning debater and public speaker while at McGill, winning 3rd place Public Speaker from the American Parliamentary Debating Association, 2nd Place Public Speaker from the Canadian University Society for Intercollegiate Debate and 2nd Place Debater at the Canadian University Society for Intercollegiate Debate.

Courtney attended Michigan State University College of Law where she was accepted into the joint J.D./LL.B. programme with the University of Ottawa on a Merit Scholarship. She obtained her J.D. in 2005 and her LL.B. in 2006. During law school, Courtney volunteered with L.E.A.F. as an Educator with Understanding Equality Rights.

After completing law school, Courtney articled at a prominent Toronto litigation firm. Courtney passed the New York Bar Exam in 2006 and was admitted to the bar in Ontario in the fall of 2007. Subsequent to her call to the bar, she practiced exclusively in the area of Insurance Defence litigation, handling first and third party disputes as well as professional negligence actions. She has appeared before the Small Claims Court, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Ontario Divisional Court and the Ontario Court of Appeal.

Courtney currently practices in the areas of insurance litigation and family law.

Courtney has been an active volunteer for one of Canada’s major political parties and has worked closely with a former Ontario Cabinet Minister in connection with his successful federal election campaign. She is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada, The Canadian Bar Association, the Ontario Bar Association and the Canadian Defence Lawyers Association.

Courtney is an avid sailor, skier and runner, and is an experienced do-it-yourself home renovator.
