Hari Nesathurai has practiced as an international tax lawyer since 1995 with a true entrepreneurial spirit and an unbridled passion for the law. He was called to the Ontario Bar in 1996. Hari is uniquely positioned to understand his clients’ needs. As the owner of several businesses himself, Hari is able see a situation from the position of a client as well as from the position of a lawyer. Licensed to practice law in Ontario, New York and Massachusetts, Hari’s practice areas include Tax Law, Trademark Law, Federal Court Litigation, Trust and Estate Law, Immigration to Canada and the U.S.A., Appeals, Canadians Owning U.S. Property, and Director’s Liability. His work history also includes consulting for the federal and provincial governments, advising technology and commodities firms, working in various management and engineering capacities for Fortune 50 companies and as a Crown Prosecutor. Hari’s Pro Bono work includes Appeals and Contempt cases, some of which became leading precedents.
Hari has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Management System from the General Motors Institute, a Juris Doctor from the University of Western Ontario and a Masters in Law in Taxation from Osgoode Hall Law School. In addition to appearing in trial and appellate courts in Ontario, Hari is admitted and practices in the US Federal Courts, US Tax Court, US First Circuit Court of Appeals and US Bankruptcy Courts, and is also on the rolls as a Solicitor in England and Wales.
Hari has appeared or been quoted in national media including on the CBC Radio the Current with Anna Maria Tremonti with respect to Nortel’s Bankruptcy, quoted in the Toronto Star on CRA Charities Directorate and appeared on BNN with respect to Canadian Potash Company Acquisition.
In addition to being a lawyer and an entrepreneur, Hari is an avid pilot, golfer, tennis player, amateur photographer and world traveler. At last count Hari had visited over 70 countries on every continent except for Antarctica and the Arctic.
Hari is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Canadian Bar Association, the Canadian Tax Foundation, and the International Trademark Association.
