Maya Krishnaratne,
B.A., (Hons.), LL.B.

Civil Litigation, Insurance Defence

Maya obtained her Honours Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Toronto where she majored in Bioethics and graduated with distinction. Maya then received her LL.B. in 2007 from the University of Ottawa and was called to the Bar of Ontario in June of 2008.

After completing law school, Maya articled at a prominent insurance defence litigation firm in Hamilton, returning as an associate following her call to the bar. She has practiced primarily in the area of insurance defence litigation and has handled files at various stages of litigation and dispute resolution. In addition, she has practiced in the area of plaintiff personal injury and has enjoyed practicing education law on behalf of children from low income families on a pro bono basis.

Maya practices civil litigation, with a focus on insurance defence litigation, and represents clients in both tort actions and accident benefits disputes.

She loves traveling and has traveled to twelve countries recently. During these travels, she had the opportunity to assist in an English instruction course for teachers in Gulu, Uganda. She is also an avid filmgoer and enjoys piano lessons, which she has recently taken up.

She is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada and the Canadian Defence Lawyers association.
