Michael built his career in law with many years of experience serving the community of Barrie under his old company Michael Reed Law Barristers and Solicitors at 105 Collier Street Barrie, ON L4M 1H2. He has recently moved his practice to Devry Smith Frank LLP and presently holds office at his new address located at 85 Bayfield Street, third (3rd) floor, Barrie, Ontario L4M 3A7 where he will continue to provide services on legal affairs to residents of Barrie and nearby areas in Simcoe County.

Michael E. Reed joins Devry Smith Frank LLP (“DSF”) and its of team of seasoned, dedicated and enthusiastic lawyers helping clients in Barrie, Toronto and surrounding areas. Michael has practiced law in Barrie since 1972 and has a long and distinguished history of serving the Barrie community spanning over 44 years of experience.
Michael devotes the bulk of his practice to a variety of areas, including corporate services, financial services, real estate, commercial finance, litigation and wills, trusts and estates. His vast and diverse experience has helped him build a large clientele base consisting of second and third generation individuals.
An extensive portion of Michael’s practice involves residential real estate covering new homes, condominiums, re-sales and refinancing, as well as commercial real estate and leasing. Michael represents clients ranging from real estate investors, developers, buyers, sellers, owners, managers, landlords and tenants in all aspects of the assessment, purchase, financing, leasing and sale of residential and commercial property.
He has acted in behalf of many major clients in activities involving the purchase, sale or mortgage of single family homes, multi-unit properties, condominiums, apartment buildings, and mixed residential-commercial properties, the negotiation, drafting and review of agreements of purchase and sale, commercial sales and leasing, mortgage advice and mortgage remedy including power of sale, foreclosure and receivership, land use planning and development, construction liens, tenant advisory services, landlord and tenant disputes, and secured lending transactions.
Michael has over 40 years of experience managing major real estate development matters for clients in Barrie, Ontario, and in the surrounding communities. Michael also practices in the area of wills, powers of attorney, estate planning for disabled individuals (Henson Trusts), and the utilization of trusts estate planning and administration of estates. He is an experienced local estate planning lawyer who provides counsel and representation for a diverse clientele of high-net-worth families and individuals, owners of family-run businesses, individuals as executors and trustees, trust companies in the capacity of executor, charities and not-for-profit organizations, parents of disabled children, and disabled individuals as beneficiaries.

Michael has years of experience providing advice in matters relating to corporate law including, but not limited to, acquisitions, mergers, reorganizations, amalgamations of businesses, purchase and sale of businesses by way of asset transactions and/or sale share transactions, partnership agreements, administrative and municipal law matters, incorporations, corporate financing transactions, contract negotiations, commercial real estate transactions, tax and corporate compliance issues. Other projects include subdivision development and severances for corporate and individual clients.
Having obtained his Master of Laws in Alternative Dispute Resolution from Osgoode Hall Law School, Michael is very well adept with applying alternative dispute resolution processes and negotiating the legal issues underlying a dispute. He has conducted several mediation sessions to resolve commercial disputes and has provided opportunities for speedy and cost-effective resolution outside the court system for many of his clients. When opportunities arise, Michael is available to accept appointments as an independent mediator and arbitrator.
