In a car accident, you may be entitled to benefits in Ontario regardless of whether you were at fault or not. You can also pursue a claim for damages if you are not the at-fault driver

Car Accidents Caused By An Underinsured, Uninsured Or Unidentified Driver

If you have been involved in a hit and run accident your situation is not hopeless as you may still be eligible to recover from either your own insurance company or the Motor Vehicle Accident Claims Fund.

Similarly, if the at-fault driver is identified but does not have insurance or does not have adequate insurance, then you can recover from the insurance company of the car you were a passenger in or your own insurance company.

Typically, a homeowner’s or general liability insurance policy will cover an animal attack or other incident involving an animal. Ontario residents whose dogs have caused an injury are held liable under the Dog Owners’ Liability Act.
